My Story

A graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology, Doug has been in the Technology industry since 1976 and actively oversees Fearing’s daily operations. Along with his wife, Lois, and three others, Doug started Fearing’s in a 600 square-foot facility in Portage, Wisconsin. In the 25 years since, the company has grown to over 30 employees with offices in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Doug likes to say he’s a “TV Technician with a dream” going back to his history with the family’s original business-Fearing’s TV and Appliance.
Doug values time with family, watersports, hiking, snowshoeing and skiing. In addition to being a devoted member of his church, Doug serves as Board President for Kinship Mentoring of Columbia County, Board member of Schools for Haiti and Scripture Chair of the Gideons-Portage camp.
“I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Fearing’s Audio Video Security, along with my wife and business partner, Lois. Fearing’s was founded in Portage, WI, in 1997. We opened a satellite office in Madison, WI, in 2005. In 2009 we relocated the company headquarters to our current location at 722 Walsh Road in Madison. We also have an office in Waukesha.
Fearing’s AVS has been A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau since 2009. We’ve served over 4000 customers since opening our doors. In addition, we were recognized as the 2015 Dane County Small Business of the Year, and while still located in Portage we were recognized as the 2003 Columbia County Small Business of the Year. Fearing’s has also received the Marcus Theaters Vendor Partner of Excellence Award and we were selected as the Wisconsin Security Associations Dealer of the Year in 2017.
Most recently, I became a published author of the book, To Make a Difference with a Twist – How a Purpose Driven Desire Turned into a Love Story. The book is the story of my journey from trying to make a difference that was temporal to making a difference that is timeless. As Former UW Badger Walk-0n Football Star and Green Bay Packer, Jared Abbrederis, testifies: “Open, honest, and at times, gut wrenching. I addition, I am also the founding and current President of Kinship Mentoring of Columbia County, board member of Schools For Haiti, Maximum CEO Certificate of Achievement Recipient 2023, member of Gideon’s International and certified Gideon church speaker, former Big Brother 2003-2007, past County Chairman of the Columbia County Republican Party 1994-1997, past State President of the Wisconsin Jaycees 1990/91, recipient of the Allen Whitfield Memorial Award awarded annually to twenty (20) outstanding State Presidents and Electronics Division Manager at BJ’s TV & Appliance. 1977-1997.
